        ONLINE applications are invited from eligible candidates for engagement as Apprentices for imparting training under the Apprentices Act, 1961 in the designated trades at various Divisions/Workshops/Units in the jurisdiction of Southern Railway. Candidates residing in the following locations/areas falling within the Geographical Jurisdiction of Southern Railway alone are eligible to apply.


           1.       Whole State of Tamil Nadu

                2.       Whole Union Territory of Puducherry

                3.       Whole State of Kerala

                4.       Whole Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands

                5.       ONLY the two districts of Andhra Pradesh, namely, SPSR Nellore and Chittoor.

                6.       ONLY one district of Karnataka, namely, Dakshina Kannada.

2.  Eligibility of person with Disability Candidates:

4% of Apprentices to be trained are reserved for person with disability under the following physical standards as per the provisions of Schedule-II of apprenticeship manual and Railway Boards letter No.E(MPP)2003/6/14 Dated: 09/12/2003. 2.  (I). Definition of Disabilities:

a)      Blindness: Blindness refers to a condition where a person suffers from any of the following conditions, namely

(i)       Total absence of sight; or

(ii)     Visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (Snellen) in the better eye with correcting lenses.

(iii)   Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degree or worse.

b)     Low Vision : “Person with low vision” means a person with impairment of visual functioning even after treatment or standard refractive corrective but who uses or is potentially capable of using vision for the planning or execution of a task with appropriate assistive device

c)       Hearing impairment: ‘Hearing Impairment” means loss of sixty decibels or more in the better ear in the conversational range of frequencies. Hearing impairment would also include persons who are deaf & dumb.

d)    Loco motor disability: “Loco motor disability” means disability of the bones, joints or muscles leading to substantial restriction of the movement of the limbs or any form of cerebral palsy.

e)  Cerebral palsy:“Cerebral palsy” means a group of non-progressive conditions of a person characterized by abnormal motor control posture resulting from brain insult or injuries occurring in the prenatal, peri-natal or infant of development.


3.    Minimum Academic/Technical Qualification as per the Apprentices Act 1961:

Note:     i) Minimum 50% marks in SSLC not applicable for SC/ST/PwBD Candidates.

ii) Course Completed Act Apprentices, Engineering Graduates and Diploma holders are NOT eligible to apply.

 MODE OF ENGAGEMENT

           The selection will be on the basis of Merit List prepared in respect of all the eligible candidates who apply against the Notification. The Merit List will be prepared by the Committee nominated for this purpose by following the procedure mentioned as under:

a)       Fresher Category :- Marks obtained in Matriculation will be converted for 200 and merit list will be drawn based on the converted marks duly ensuring Minimum 50% in aggregate marks in Matriculation.


b)      Ex.ITI :- Marks obtained in Matriculation will be converted to 100 marks ( duly ensuring Minimum 50% marks in aggregate) + ITI marks duly converted to 100. Total marks put together will be calculated for 200 marks and merit list will be drawn based on the converted marks giving equal weight age to both.


c)       MLT :- Marks obtained in Higher Secondary (with Physics, Chemistry, Maths & Biology) will be converted for 200 and merit list will be drawn based on the converted marks duly ensuring Minimum 50% in aggregate marks in Matriculation.


For candidates possessing Xth through General Education Department, Government of Kerala the grades are classified on nine-point scale. Administration will take midpoint of range of grades obtained by the candidates. After obtaining midpoints of all the attempted subjects according to grades awarded, percentage will be calculated treating each subject is out of 100 marks as there is no standard method or multiplying factor for calculation of average of matriculation for such Boards.


d)     For SC/ST and PwBD ( PH quota) candidates the minimum percentage of 50% marks in aggregate in Matriculation is not insisted upon)


e)      In case of two candidates having the same marks, the older candidate will be preferred. In case the dates of birth are also same, then the candidate who has passed Matriculation Examination earlier will be considered.


Original transfer certificate for completion of qualifying examination (Std. X/XII/ITI) must be produced during document verification.

    Processing fee (Non-Refundable) Rs.100/-.

Fee is to be paid through ONLINE MODE. Ne fee is required to be paid by SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates.
